Puerto Rico stands as a distinguished advocate for groundbreaking musical expressions within Latin jazz and experimental theater music, serving as a composer, instrumental arranger, vocal arranger, and keyboardist. He boasts an extensive portfolio featuring numerous original scores, mostly inspired by Afro-Caribbean traditions. Desmar is the founding director of the chamber jazz ensemble Taller Sicá, and he is the longstanding Musical Director of the Latine theater company Pregones/PRTT in New York City.
